A Bento Beauty Project

by Sasha Manuel on July 19th, 2007

Eena AcuñaBeing a freelance makeup artist, I get to experience applying makeup on different sorts of facial structures. However, if there’s something I’m used to, it’s Asian skin and features.

Meet Eena, she was my model during the styling project I did for a segment on national TV. I did her makeup that day, alongside styling and what-not.

She has chinita or almond shaped eyes, no eyelid creases, extremely thin set of eyebrows, great set of cheekbones and luscious lips. Her golden skin is something that I’m used to since I share the same skin tone.

Since, we’re simply going for a more natural looking makeup on her since the segment should capture a girl-next-door type and we’re not expecting too much halogen lights during the shoot. I went with doing up her eyes for expression, and cheeks and lips for colour.

Eena Eye MakeupWhat I used:

Face
J & J Daycream Moisturiser
Tea Tree Oil Tube Concealer #02, The Body Shop
Claire Foundation, Monave
Satin Sun Illuminizer, Valerie

Eyes
Shimmer Waves, The Body Shop
Bombshell Multi-purpose Mineral, Valerie
Eye Definer in Taupe, The Body Shop
Volum Express Mascara in Brownish Black, Maybelline

Cheek
Cheek Colour, The Body Shop

Lips
Shimmer Lip Balm in Cranberry, The Body Shop
189 Pure Eden, Estee Lauder

If you’ve noticed, I mixed using conventional makeup and minerals (it’s one tip I got from Sophie) on Eena. I’m still in transition when it comes to mineral makeup. One thing I can vouch for when it comes to using the latter is that it does stand the test of time. It doesn’t wear off easily, take a look at Eena’s top photo, that’s her makeup (with little to no re-touch) approximately after eight hours of humidity and perspiration.

For Eyes, I’m known to do several layers to achieve shadows. The best tool for application I would suggest is the use of fingertips. For cheeks, I concentrate on the “apples” and simply the blend colour around it. For Lips, I like the dewy lip look, hence, the need for a large amount of lip balm as base and finishing.

Quick Beauty Tip: Apply a generous amount of moisturiser before makeup application, simply wipe off excess moisture with a clean tissue.
