Bento Beauty Tip: Intensive Conditioning

Sunsilk Intensive Conditioner for Damage RepairSunsilk Intensive Treatment
Damage Repair

It deeply nourishes and quickly repairs damaged hair and fortifies from within to make your hair strong and beautiful.

One of the things I’ve learned when I was in my second year in high school, twas the first time I’ve ever grew my hair past my shoulder — I let it grow a good 20 inches — was to keep it hydrated, moisturised or conditioned. I reckon since it was my first try, thinking I wasn’t doing anything wrong even when I hardly groomed it or took proper care of it, I made a lot of blunders. To name a few, my hair suffered split-ends, severe dryness, which resulted to discolouration, turned brownish at the end, mimicking a burnt effect and severe hair fall and brittle strands. Egad. Quite a bit of a nightmare, yeah? It was. The only solution I had was to cut everything off and kept it at a neat bob, chin-length. But not for long.

If you know me personally or have been around my blogs, you’ll find that I’ve always kept my hair long. I’ve grown used to the length. You would think I’d have been traumatised by that experience, huh? On the contrary, I simply saw it as a challenge and a life-long trek in finding the best way to care for my hair since I do like my long, straight Asian hair.

In the years of maintaining my long hair, I’ve learned that the best way to keep it at its best state is to properly, extensively, and intensively condition it. I threw away the notion that I have to shampoo and condition every friggin’ day. Or that I only have to apply the same amount of conditioner as the shampoo on my hair. Or that a 2-in-1 will give you the same effect. I know firmly believe in applying generous amounts of conditioner on my hair.

Another is that there’s a big difference when I practice intensive conditioning.

I’m not saying that it’s a miracle hair product that will produce the effect you want on your hair overnight. It can take days, weeks, or even months of application before your hair is properly regulated. It all depends on the state of your hair and if you’re using the right product. I’ve tried various conditioners — from products formulated esp for Asians to imported western brands — but it all boils down to how I know my own hair, hence, compatibility with certain products.

So, in one of my hair product escapades, I stumbled upon this Intensive Treatment in an orange pot by Sunsilk when I was at the supermarket a couple of weeks ago. It says it has 3x more concentrated Olive Oil serum compared to the regular Sunsilk shampoo. Of course, I was a bit skeptical, at first, since I knew the brand’s shampoo and conditioner does suit my hair well but seeing that it say it’s an ‘intensive conditioner’ (thinking it can produce a different result) I thought I’d give it a go.

Lo and behold, on the first application, I immediately spotted a difference in my hair! I’m serious! It was extra soft and smooth and a bit shinier. But I decided to wait it out, wondering if it will wear out. Like what I said earlier, I only wash my hair every other day, so, the following day, my hair stayed soft and smooth, it was remarkable. I still held out on the review until I’ve fully tested the product out. I then went back and checked on their “promise” of repairing damaged hair in just 3 days. Hmmm. That’ll be a bit tricky due to my own personal hair regimen.

Guess what? More than a week have past and I’ve used the product more than three times now and true to its word, my hair is now better than it was before. Face value, at least. It feels softer, occurrence of tangles are slim to none. My hair certainly looks healthier, none of the dry and damaged look. I’m absolutely raving!

Quick tip: After shampooing and conditioning, apply a few scoops all over your hair. Rub a little extra on the tips. Leave on for 5 minutes and rinse. Use as often as needed.

In addition, it’s quite a treat that I also came across this fabulous DIY hair treatment, which uses this product. Sophie of Kikay Kits actually provided steps on how to do a hot oil treatment at home with only the Sunsilk Intensive Treatment, hot water and a towel needed. It’s a real money-saver tip and not to mention a fantastic hair care tip.

Bento Beauty Tip: Allow natural oils to spread on hair strands but not shampooing everyday. Shampoo only when necessary, i.e. removing styling products, exposure to dirt and perspiration. Condition regularly. Intensive conditioning can be done once or twice a week at a minimum. Focus on tips of the hair. Avoid extensive rubbing on the hair when drying. I have been on the lookout for a few intensive conditioners, as my is hair dryer then normal with all the harsh elements it has been exposed to this Summer. Looks like I will have to pick up Sunsilk next time I am the drugstore.
