The Perfect Mascara

by Christina on May 15th, 2008

Guest post by Colleen Coplick, Buzz Networker

I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect mascara for years now. I’ve tried pretty much every brand out there from MAC through to pretty much every single drugstore brand out there. Now, granted, I don’t have easy access to a Sephora, (yet, I’ve heard rumours that my city will be getting one sometime this year… we’ll see) and as much as I’d love to be, I’m not a Holt’s girl (Holt Renfrew… it’s sort of Vancouver’s version of Neiman’s), so I tend to stray away from $30 some odd tubes of mascara.
I am a well-studied student of the late Kevin Aucoin. He taught me everything I know about makeup and their looks, some of which I’ll talk about later this week. Complete with detailed pictures! But when eyelashes are concerned, I know the technique of putting on mascara properly and very very well. It’s one of my daily staples. This is why the quest for the perfect mascara is paramount.
I think I’ve managed to narrow it down to two options: CoverGirl’s Lash Blast and Maybelline’s Define-a-lash Volume Mascara. I once tried them both on - one on each eye… with very little discernible difference. I think at this point, I’m leaning towards the Cover Girl, which does sort of surprise me, because I haven’t ever been a real big fan of Cover Girl in the past. Now that they’ve got a brilliant partnership with America’s Next Top Model (and as of tonight, GO WHITNEY!!!!  I’m sooooo happy that she won!!!) they’re starting to step up their game. They’ve even got Drew as their latest Cover Girl. So maybe I’m on the right track here?

Your mission, oh dear readers, tell me: What’s your favorite mascara and why do you love it?

I have a similar life long goal to find the best mascara as well.

I saw Drew’s commercial last night during the ANTM finale and her lashes are so obviously fake. If they want to use false lashes to sell the mascara, thats fine with me, I just expect them to at least pretend to try to pass them off as real.

I didn’t love the Lash Blast, but haven’t tried define-a-lash.

Some mascaras that I do like are:
-Very Sexy High-Definition Mascara by Victoria’s Secret
    -Imju Fiberwig Fiberwig Mascara
    -Cover Girl Lash Exact Masacara

    P.S. Go Whitney!

I would say I have my favorite mascaras just for a certain period then I find it not working for me, i guess it has to do with the weather as well. I’ve tried and loved Fasio mascara..but I found it to dry my lashes :( I guess because I’m using the waterproof version, I never used a non waterproof ones though :) I cant’ wait to try on CG Lash Blast, heard so much good and bad reviews, that’s why i’m not too keen to try before…

i love toofaced lash injection. sephora now has a mini for 10USD, which allows you to use it all up before the expiration date.

I love Imju fiberwig mascara but I’ve been tempted and have also tried both lash blast and define a lash. You’re right, they’re both great as well!

    Thanks for a great post!

Has any one tried Mary Kay Ultimate mascara? It’s one of the best of any I have ever tried. It too has a patented new brush, is good even with sensitive eyes, or contacts and is only $15! It has been recomended by a couple of beauty editors in magazines. You just need to find a Mary Kay consultant, or go to my website.

I’ve tried many mascaras over the years and always end up going back to Clinique’s Double Lash Mascara. The wand gets narrower toward the tip so it’s excellent at getting those tiny lashes and it lasts all day. Plus, it really thickens lashes. A great website for make-up reviews is Paula Begoun’s Beautypedia.

I have been a covergirl makeup person for most of my life, it is the only make up that I do not have a allergic reaction to. Always trying out their new colours and products

i am too on the elusive search for the perfect mascara. i have slightly oily skin, am asian, and with my almond shaped eyes, all the eye makeup travels south and i get major raccoon eyes. what i need is a recommendation for a great mascara (and eyeliner, although chanel’s liquid stuff is good) that does not come off! and waterproof mascara does not make a difference. suggestions welcome!

you have to be kidding. every cheap mascara that i have ever tried has flaked off in 10 minutes. so, for that matter, does lauder. i have almost invisible lashes and using lancome lash fortifier makes the biggest difference. i like lancome, dior, chanel and lorac(for its great eggplant color). i expect the fashion magazines to tout the cheap mascaras because those are their biggest advertisers. but here? please.

By far the best mascara is Loreal Paris Voluminous in Carbon Black and Lancome L’Extreme. They give so much volume and you only have to apply it once. Covergirl mascaras contain way too high of a toxic chemical content (www.cosmeticdatabase.org) therefore it’s not good for your body/face. I don’t understand why everyone votes Maybelline Great Lash mascara to be the #1 mascara. It sucks! I’ve used it many times and nothing comes out. The result is disappointing.

My fave mascara has got to be Loreal Lash Architect , Revlon Fabulash & Imuju Fibrewig . The only thing I didn’t like about Fibrewig is that the fobres gets into the eyes when removing it .

    MAC Zoomlash is good too
